Enjoy Family Biking in Boulder with These Top Trails

With more than 300 days of sunshine each year, biking in Boulder, CO is one of the best ways to get around. The City of Boulder has actively cultivated a culture of biking and thoughtful planning has allowed for dedicated bike lanes, multi-use paths, and ‘sharrows’ (shared lane arrows). Check out these top biking paths in Boulder, then gather up your Hamax gear, the kids, and some sunscreen before heading out on your next adventure.

1. Boulder Creek Path

This paved path runs for 5.5 miles from Boulder Canyon to the Stazio Ballfields and provides a fun ride for families and riders of all skill levels. Along the way, you’ll follow the Boulder Creek (didn’t see that one coming…) and ride through the University of Colorado campus, downtown Boulder, and several community parks. Plan for a stop at the Boulder Public Library to keep those little minds working along with mom and dad’s leg workout. And, with the Hamax Outback multisport trailer, there is plenty of room in the back to carry all the books you can’t live without. Click here for a map to start planning your adventures.

2. Betasso Preserve

The Betasso Preserve is a dirt trail that flows well and provides interesting terrain for beginners to more advanced riders. Rolling hills and twisty sections provide refreshing scenery and the suspension on the Hamax child bike seats still allows your kiddo to be comfortable. A 7.4-mile round trip, the trail is one directional for bicycles so make sure that you are following the signs and watch out for hikers that may be traveling in both directions. Find a map here to see the full route.

3. Valmont Bike Park

The Valmont Bike Park is 42 acres of natural surface terrain perfect for bike riders of any age and skill level. The rough terrain in the park is no match for the suspension on Hamax child bike seats, although we probably wouldn’t recommend the staircase feature or the dirt jumps. See a map of the park here.

4. Boulder Valley Ranch

This 4.4-mile route is made up of the Eagle and Sage trails inside the Open Space and Mountain Park and provides a moderately difficult ride on compacted dirt or gravel. Make sure to bring your camera on this trip to capture the abundance of wildlife that inhabit the park including eagles, hawks, deer, coyotes, and snakes. Boulder Valley Ranch is also home to a rare and fragile plant called the Bell’s Twinpod that only grows in shale soils. Click here for a map of the area.

5. Harlow Platts Park

The 0.7-mile loop around Viele Lake is perfect for days when you want an easy ride, or aren’t sure how much the kids can take. With an awesome playground and sandbox, plenty of Pokemon Go stops, and extra exercise stations this park has something for everyone in your family.

With an abundance of sun and great city planning, biking in Boulder is a fun and easy pastime for any family. Make sure you have the perfect gear for your next outing with Hamax child bike seats and multi-sport trailers.
