Family Bike Trails in Sacramento Equal Fun For Everyone

Whether you’re training for Eppie’s Great Race or just looking to get out of the house more often, Sacramento has plenty of family bike trails to choose from. We’ve listed our favorite family bike trails so you don’t have to go searching – just pick one below, check out the map, and head out the door! 1. American River Bike Trail/Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail

This beautiful trail runs alongside the American River for 32 miles between Discovery Park and Folsom Lake. The paved trail has lane markers, mile markers, and trailside maps. Also available are water fountains, restrooms, and telephones in reasonable increments. The path is mostly flat but does feature a few rolling hills to keep things interesting. If you and the family need a rest stop there are plenty of places to stop for a snack or to admire the view. Grab a map and start planning your next adventure along the river.

2. Sacramento River Parkway Trail

We recommend the Northern section if you are looking for a longer and more urban route. Starting at the Jibboom Street Bridge in Tiscornia Park the trail heads South passing several artistic fountains. About 1 mile in, the trail passes the California State Railroad Museum which features several restored locomotives and train rides. This would be a great place to stop off on the return trip! Check out both ends of the route with this map. Don’t forget your camera to capture the memories you’re sure to make.

3. Miner’s Ravine Bike Trail

sacramento family bike trails miners ravineRoughly 7.5 miles in length this trail follows both Dry Creek and Miner’s Ravine. The isolated, outdoor feel is a welcome change from the suburban surroundings. The paved path offers a few inclines challenge riders of all levels. Make sure to visit the Sculpture Park on N. Sunrise. It’s the perfect place to watch the kids play while you rest and stretch out for the ride home.

 

 

4. Elk Grove Creek Trail

There is a brief disconnect between the North and South portions of the trail. There is also access to four different parks as well as a variety of restaurants and shops along the trail. Picnic tables and benches scattered throughout the path make for perfect resting points. Take a breather and let the kiddos stretch their legs. A quick look at this map will help you plan your next trip.

5. Folsom City

There are several trails close to the lake that are favored by mountain bikers and hikers. The surrounding trails in Folsom city are geared more towards families and beginners. With 34 miles of paths, there is sure to be something for everyone. Take a look at this city map which shows all the trails within Folsom city limits.
