Honolulu Bike Paths Families Will Love

With around 9 million visitors per year, Hawaii is a popular destination for tourists looking to see the sights. What better way to see the islands than by bike? Whether you have your own bikes or you’re using a bike rental, you won’t want to miss these favorite Honolulu bike paths. We think locals and out-of-towners alike will find these to be some of the best destinations for biking in Honolulu.

Ala Moana Park Path

Honolulu Bike Paths Ala Moana Regional ParkLocated on the edges of Ala Moana Regional Park, this path is perfect for families looking for a short outing. The paved trail is just under 2 miles. You can cut through the park to make it shorter or add the Magic Island loop depending on how everyone is handling the ride. On one side of the park you’ll be awed with views of downtown Honolulu. Turn the corner to reveal the beautiful sandy beach that comes into view. There are boat harbors on both the east and west sides that are entertaining to watch if you need to stop for a break. Don’t forget to bring a picnic or head over to the Ala Moana shopping center for a bite to eat. Plan your trip with this map.

Ala Wai Canal Promenade

Honolulu Bike Paths Ala Wai Canal PromenadeThis out-and-back trail runs for 1.9 miles making it a great place for a shorter ride. The trail starts at Ala Wai Elementary School, so make sure to leave time at the end for a trip to the playground. You’ll also pass by several sports fields and a golf course along the way. The concrete path does not have any road crossings making it perfect for little ones that are learning to ride. Make sure to bring sunscreen and water as there is little shade available. Check out this map to see the route.

Pearl Harbor Bike Path

Honolulu Bike Paths Pearl Harbor Bike PathWhile not quite in downtown Honolulu, the Pearl Harbor Bike Path is great for changing it up. Plus you can add a little history lesson to your biking adventures. Running along the coast for 5.2 miles, the paved out-and-back trail has plenty of shade. The path does cross several roads, so may not be best for older kids learning to ride. The wooden bridges, wildlife refuge, and ships in the Middle Loch keep the ride interesting for everyone. You’ll also pass through several parks where the kiddos can get out and stretch their legs while mom and dad take a break from pedaling. View a map of the trail before setting out.

No matter what path you choose to ride in life (or just this weekend!) we think the Honolulu bike paths will be among your favorites. There are plenty of places to rent bikes for an hour or a day in Honolulu, but if you want to take a long your kiddos there’s no better way than a child bike seat or bike trailer from Hamax. Providing comfort and safety for families since 1981, Hamax is a brand you can trust with your most precious cargo.
